A porter has been subjected to a "terrifying ordeal" during a robbery at an East Yorkshire hotel, police said.

Staff at Lazaats Hotel and Restaurant in Cottingham called police after arriving at work to find the night porter restrained outside the hotel.

Parts of the premises were set on fire and cash was taken.

Humberside Police said up to three men, possibly carrying baseball bats and a knife, were involved. A CCTV image of one robber has been released.

Det Insp Pete Francis said: "Prior to leaving the scene the offenders have set fire to part of the premises and were possibly wearing balaclavas.

"The victim is currently in a very distraught and distressed state and is being taken care of by a team of specialist officers."

The CCTV image shows a man wearing a dark balaclava, a pale blue jumper with horizontal stripes across it, dark trousers, work boots and a purple bag.

He is said to be of stocky build and between 5ft 8in and 6ft tall.

The force has asked anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious in the area between 0230 and 0715 BST on Tuesday to contact Beverley CID.
