A council which has raised £1m through selling some of its buildings has decided to dispose of two more.

Powys council is switching about 100 staff in Brecon from Watton Mount and its annex to Neuadd Brycheiniog.

The local authority is looking to save money, and said it was part of its plans to "rationalise its property portfolio".

It has already raised some £1m by selling property in Crickhowell, Machynlleth and Welshpool.

The council said social care staff would move from Watton Mount, and the annex, to Neuadd Brycheiniog between 15 and 23 June.

A spokesman said: "By changing working practices and by converting the old chamber at Neuadd Brycheiniog we have been able to create enough office space under that roof to fit in these staff."

The council said telephone numbers for the social care staff would not change, and calls would transfer to Neuadd Brycheiniog.

The spokesman added: "Once the two buildings are empty we will be looking to dispose of them.

"This will not only raise funds for the council, we will be saving on paying the running costs for these two buildings."

Neighbouring Ceredigion council has raised nearly £850,000 by selling some unwanted offices in Aberystwyth, exceeding the estimated sale price by more than £300,000.
