A fire at a derelict high school and church in the west end of Glasgow has forced the closure of an adjacent primary school.

No one was hurt in the blaze at the three-storey former Notre Dame school in Victoria Circus.

Glasgow City Council said the fire has caused Notre Dame Primary School to be closed.

Parents and staff of the school, in Victoria Crescent, Dowanhill, are being told it will not open on Monday.

The school has not been damaged but access to the building and playground is not possible at present, a council spokeswoman said.

At its height, the fire, which started at about 2030 BST on Saturday, took 60 firefighters to bring under control.

Strathclyde Fire Service said the walls of the church were thought to be unstable and building inspectors were due to examine the structure.
