Prince Harry told the BBC last year that he "can't see a world in which" he would bring his wife and children back to Britain. But he and his wife, Meghan Markle, who have lived in California since their exit from the Royal Family in 2020, are set to visit the UK next month, along with their children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet.

This has been made possible by one key development: the Prince is satisfied with the security arrangements, which he previously took the Home Office to court over and lost. It is not known, however, whether the King will meet Archie and Lilibet, as he last saw them during the late Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

An expert has issued her verdict on the prospect of a meeting between Harry and Charles, suggesting that people should not mistake his "willingness" to see his grandchildren as a weakness.

King Charles knows this, she added, but he is also "acutely aware that his two youngest grandchildren are not the instigators of the hostility and manipulation we have seen in recent years".

"They are innocents caught up in a very sad and bitter family rift, even if it is one of their own parents’ making," Rebecca wrote. Afterwards… well, that’s entirely down to the Sussexes. And courtiers will be watching closely."

It comes after it was confirmed on Thursday that the King and Queen will not live at Buckingham Palace once almost £ 370 million of refurbishment work to make the landmark fit for purpose has been completed.

James Chalmers, Keeper of the Privy Purse, said: “I can update you that after careful consideration, and to greatly increase opportunities for public access, the King and Queen have decided not to adopt Buckingham Palace as a personal residence and will instead continue to use Clarence House as their London home.

“Their Majesties will, however, have access to private rooms within the palace where they can retire during the course of a working day, and which could be utilised as potential residential accommodation in times ahead.”
