Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are heading back to the U.K., and their return could put a serious dent in the royal spotlight Prince William and Kate Middleton have been enjoying.

The Sussexes are returning to Harry’s homeland to spend quality time with King Charles, 77, who has been battling cancer since 2024, per People. It’s also a great opportunity for Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, to get the opportunity to know their cousins after spending their young lives thousands of miles away in sunny California. But the news for William and Kate has one royal expert telling Us Weekly that they are likely “tearing their hair out at the news.”

“They have so much on their plate as it is trying to shore up the monarchy and propel it into the future; they don’t really need to cope with having Harry and Megan on their proverbial doorstep,” claimed royal author Christopher Andersen.

Andersen is a known Sussex critic, so his hot take isn’t that favorable.

He added, “By returning to the U.K., the Sussexes will inevitably suck up all the oxygen in the room. They will generate countless tabloid stories and take the focus away from other members of the Royal family, which is a major no-no. King Charles and Queen Camilla, in particular, don’t like to be upstaged, and the same goes for William.”

The Waleses were apparently “blindsided” by the shocking move, according to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack, because the royal couple has enjoyed the rhythm of the new royal order since Harry and Meghan left. But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s return will also put the hot spotlight back on William and Kate’s very light workload — there’s a reason the “Work-shy Willie” nickname exists.

Prince Harry and Meghan love to get out in the trenches and work the crowds to support their favorite philanthropic ventures. At the same time, Kate and William have been criticized for not taking on more patronages — the work ethic debate will likely return. It’s something William would rather not deal with as heir to the throne, and he’s reportedly “fuming” that his younger brother’s return is disrupting his plans, per Woman’s Day.

Even though Prince Harry and Meghan aren’t returning to the senior royal roster, their U.K. move is the biggest chess move in the family feud that no one saw coming.
