Pubs showing World Cup matches will be visited by teams of police officers during games as part of a crackdown against anti-social behaviour.

Manx police have joined forces with the Ramsey and district pub watch group to launch a campaign to eliminate drunken violence and intimidation.

Officers will be increasing their visits to pubs between 11 June and 11 July.

A spokesman said people should be able to "relax" during football screenings.

Pc Kevin Quirk said: "It is our intention to ensure that people can come to Ramsey and relax in a safe and friendly environment whilst enjoying the hospitality of our local pubs."

Mandi Smith, licensee of the Britannia pub, said: "Ramsey pub watch members are fully behind this campaign and we all look forward to welcoming people to our pubs to watch the games."
