Pub offers reward to trace Hawick attackers

A Hawick pub has put up a £1,000 reward in an attempt to find the men who assaulted one of its regular customers in his own home.

David Goldsbrough, 54, was badly injured in the attack and spent almost three weeks in intensive care.

He remains in a serious but stable condition after the incident in the town's McLaren Court on 26 April.

Waverley Bar landlord Arthur Smith has now offered a reward for information which helps trace the attackers.

Lothian and Borders Police are hunting three local men in their 20s, who were seen leaving the area and heading in the direction of Chay Blyth Place.

Mr Smith described Mr Goldsbrough as "harmless" and "one of the nicest blokes you'll ever meet".

A collection has also been organised in the Hawick High Street pub to help buy him pyjamas and other clothes while he is in hospital.

It is understood no money was taken and nothing was stolen in the attack, which happened shortly after midnight.

A police spokesman said: "This attack has clearly shocked the local community.

"The victim is responding well to treatment and is still in a serious but stable condition.

"We are pleased with the public response to this inquiry but would still encourage any persons with information regarding the incident to come forward."
