Real Madrid Officially Announces Record First Team Transfer
Real Madrid has shattered its transfer record, securing Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig for a reported €125 million, potentially rising to €140 million with add-ons. Diomande joins on a seven-year deal, committing until June 2033. This blockbuster signing caps a transformative summer for Real Madrid, which also saw the arrivals of Marc Cucurella, Carlos Espi, and Denzel Dumfries, plus free transfers for Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate. The club's total transfer expenditure now totals €225 million, though €184.5 million from player sales has significantly offset the outlay. President Florentino Perez is driving an aggressive rebuild under new coach Jose Mourinho, determined to restore the club's dominance after two trophyless seasons. Diomande's acquisition ends the pursuit of Michael Olise and signals potential squad changes.
Real Madrid has announced the landmark club record transfer of Yan Diomande through its official website and social media accounts.
“Real Madrid C. F. and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Yan Diomande, who is linked to our club for the next seven seasons, until June 30, 2033,” the club wrote in a brief statement.
It provided no figures for the transfer, yet according to MARCA, the deal is worth a record $144 million (€125 million) with a further $11.5 to $17.3 million (€10 to €15 million) due in add-ons.
The Diomande transfer is the latest in a busy summer for Madrid. It has also spent $63.4 million (€55 million) on Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, $29 million (€25 million) on former Levante striker Carlos Espi and $23 million (€20 million) to get Netherlands international Denzel Dumfries out of his Inter Milan contract.
This takes the total spend to $259.5 million (€225 million), with Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate having also joined on free transfers after their terms expired at Manchester City and Liverpool respectively.
What must also be noted, however, is that total revenue from sales of mainly youth academy products has totaled ($213 million) €184.5 million. This means the outlay isn’t as heavy as it seems as first glance, and instead represents shrewd business overall from the 15-time Champions League winner.
After two trophyless seasons while bitter rival FC Barcelona has scooped up five out of the six pieces of silverware on offer, Flo Perez isn’t messing around when it comes to returning Real Madrid to its glory days.
New head coach Jose Mourinho certainly can’t complain about not receiving reinforcements to do his job, and the right wing spot is now more than accounted for.
Diomande’s arrival ends any previous pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise for now. It’s bad news for the likes of Rodryo and misfit signing Franco Mastantuono as well, with the Argentine looking set to join Fiorentina on loan.
Something that’s interesting is the timing of Real Madrid’s announcement, however. This came at almost exactly the same time reports broke about Rodri agreeing to join Barça, after talks for him reportedly broke down between Los Blancos and Manchester City.
