Commuters into Birmingham were hit by long delays after one of the tunnels in the city centre was closed.

Suffolk Street Queensway, which runs under Paradise Circus was shut when a car broke down in the northbound tunnel shortly after 0700 BST.

It resulted in lengthy delays for traffic coming in from the south of the city on Bristol Road and caused gridlock at the Pagoda roundabout.

The tunnel was re-opened by police at about 0835 BST.

Some commuters said the delays had added up to an hour on to their journeys.
