Samsung's new Slide-in Ranges and Over-the-Range Microwave lack Matter support and rely exclusively on Samsung's SmartThings ecosystem, despite Matter being widely adopted across other smart home appliance categories and Samsung supporting Matter elsewhere in its ecosystem.

Samsung has unveiled new connected Slide-in Ranges and an Over-the-Range Microwave, integrating them into its SmartThings platform for remote control and automatic syncing. A headline feature is Air Fry Max, promising crispy results without preheating and up to 15% faster cooking through high temperatures and powerful convection. The ranges also boast True Convection and Air Sous Vide, with electric models featuring Express Boil and gas versions a powerful Dual Power Burner. The companion microwave includes Air Fry Max and convection cooking. Notably, these new appliances lack Matter support, relying exclusively on Samsung's ecosystem despite Matter's growing presence in smart home appliances. They are now rolling out in North America.

Samsung has unveiled a refreshed lineup of connected cooking appliances, introducing new Slide-in Ranges alongside an Over-the-Range Microwave.

Available in both gas and electric versions, the new models sync through Samsung’s SmartThings smart home platform, adding features like automatic appliance syncing and remote controls.

However, despite Samsung’s continued support for Matter elsewhere in its smart home ecosystem, these new appliances don’t support the smart home standard.

The headline feature across the lineup is Air Fry Max which, according to Samsung, delivers crispy results without the need to preheat and cuts cooking times by up to 15% compared to the Air Fry modes found on previous-gen models.

The Korean giant says high temperatures combined with more powerful convection airflow help speed up cooking while still delivering a crunchy finish.

The Slide-in Range also features True Convection for more even baking and roasting, while a Air Sous Vide mode adds controlled airflow and temperature to help lock in moisture and flavor when cooking vacuum-sealed foods.

The electric version features a 3.6kW Express Boil cooktop with dual-ring elements that can accommodate different cookware sizes, while the gas model gets a 23K BTU Dual Power Burner for high-heat cooking tasks such as boiling water, searing meat, and stir-frying.

The companion Over-the-Range Microwave also includes Air Fry Max and boasts convection cooking, which circulates hot air throughout the cavity for faster and more even cooking.

When paired together, the microwave automatically switches on its cooktop lighting and ventilation whenever the range is in use, removing one small but welcome manual step from the cooking process.

You can monitor and control the new appliances remotely through the SmartThings app, use voice controls via supported assistants, and access recipe suggestions and meal planning tools through SmartThings Food.

Matter supports several major home appliance categories (and has done for a couple of years now); including ovens, cooktops, microwaves, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, and robotic vacuums.

SmartThings itself can manage Matter-certified appliances from other brands, Samsung's own large appliances have yet to adopt the standard.

These new Slide-in Ranges and Over-the-Range Microwave continue to rely on Samsung's SmartThings ecosystem rather than offering native Matter compatibility.

The new Slide-in Ranges and Over-the-Range Microwave are rolling out across North America now, with the Slide-in Range also set to arrive in select Latin American markets later this year.
