Scott Strazik, chief executive of GE Vernova, says the company's new north star is to electrify and decarbonise the world. Since the spin-off in April 2024, the stock has climbed more than 600%, reflecting a rapid shift toward AI-driven energy technologies.

GE Vernova, which supplies equipment for roughly a quarter of global electricity generation, from gas and wind to nuclear and hydro, has become an independent public company. Under Strazik's leadership the firm has forged R&D partnerships with AI hardware leader NVIDIA and nuclear-energy start-up Blue Energy. These collaborations aim to create specialised solutions for the emerging "AI factories" that demand ultra-reliable, high-density power.

He added that technology developed for AI customers is expected to flow back into the broader electricity grid, funded by the partners' investment in the learning curve.

The pivot aligns GE Vernova with Europe's climate goals. By providing smarter, more efficient grid equipment, the company can help reduce carbon emissions while meeting the soaring power demand of data centres and AI workloads. The shift also reflects a broader trend of traditional industrial firms embracing digital and AI capabilities to stay competitive.

Strazik notes that a quarter of the workforce and a similar share of customers joined after the spin-off, indicating a rapid transformation of the company's culture and market base.

Strazik emphasises talent acquisition, urging education systems to inspire young people to build the infrastructure needed over the next decade. Continued collaboration with tech firms is expected to accelerate the rollout of AI-compatible grid solutions across Europe and beyond.

OpenAI has introduced the address [email protected], allowing staff to raise technical or workplace issues straight to senior leadership, including CEO Sam Altman.

Crystal Springs, a private school near San Francisco, has set up a small venture capital fund backed by parents from firms such as Lightspeed and Sequoia, targeting early-stage, pre-IPO companies.

European equities showed little movement, with the STOXX Europe 600 down 0.02% in early trading. The UK FTSE 100 slipped 0.07%.
