Second vandalism attack on Bannockburn church

A teenage boy is being investigated in connection with an alleged vandalism spree which left several church windows shattered, police have said.

The 14-year-old was reported to the Children's Reporter in relation to the incident, which took place on 21 March.

Rocks were thrown at Ladywell Church in Bannockburn, near Stirling, causing hundreds of pounds of damage.

It is the second time in under two years the Church of Scotland building has been targeted by youths.

In September 2008, eight arched windows in the sanctuary and at the entrance were shattered by a group of children aged as young as six.

The damage they caused cost £600 to repair.

Ladywell minister Rev Elizabeth Robertson said she and her congregation had been "shocked and saddened" by the incidents.

She said: "I have an elderly congregation who take a great pride in their church.

"They come from the days when you wouldn't dare even set foot in a church garden uninvited, never mind vandalise a church like this. But some children have little respect for the church.

"The church is an important part of the Bannockburn community. We've had to chase away groups of children quite a lot in recent months. I'll never understand what they get out of it."
