Sextuplet babies still 'critical' in Oxford

The five surviving sextuplet babies born in Oxford are "growing stronger" but remain in a "critical" condition, doctors have said.

Vicky Lamb, 31, of Oxford, gave birth to four girls and two boys on 14 May but one of the boys died soon after.

The surviving babies remain in intensive care at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

A family spokesperson said: "The babies are critical but are improving, and growing stronger, every day."

Mrs Lamb, who had fertility treatment, gave birth to the six babies, 14 weeks early.

She has been represented by the publicist Max Clifford, who said she had recovered well in the days after the births.

Live births of sextuplets are rare, occurring approximately once in every 4.5 million pregnancies.

The most recent surviving set of sextuplets in the UK were born in Belfast in May 2009.
