She was a "closet" violist in her earlier years, but today Nokuthula Ngwenyama (noh-koo-TOO-lah en-gwen-YAH-mah) is on her way to becoming a household name, and she's one of five finalists for the "Debut Artist of the Year" prize at the first Performance Today Awards this weekend. We'll revisit a session at NPR's Studio 4A by the gifted 18-year-old Curtis Institute student and pianist Reiko Uchida (RAY-koh OO-chee-dah) last May that included performances of a Haydn-Piatogorsky Divertimento, Praeludium and Allegro by Fritz Kreisler, and the Elegie by Gabriel Faure.
