More than 100 emergency aid relief boxes from a Cornwall-based charity are being dispatched to Central America to help victims of a tropical storm.

The first consignment of 112 boxes is being sent to Guatemala after it was hit by flooding and mudslides.

The storm, on Saturday, left more than 150 people dead and 94,000 homeless.

The ShelterBox charity is to send about 500 boxes in total - they each contain a 10-person tent, blankets, cooking equipment and water purification items.

The charity, based in Helston, is the largest Rotary Club project in the world.

It was set up in 2000 as a millennium project and over the past decade it has worked on every continent providing emergency aid to the victims of earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, typhoons, hurricanes, volcanoes and conflicts.
