Soldiers from the Rifles Regiment are set to parade through a Shropshire town after they are awarded the freedom of the borough of Telford on Saturday.

Residents and visitors can also meet the soldiers ahead of the unveiling of a new Remembrance Memorial in Town Park.

The regiment was created from the former Kings Shropshire Light Infantry in 2007.

Motorists are being warned some diversions are in place in Telford.

The Remembrance Memorial will be unveiled at about 1400 BST with the freedom ceremony taking place at about 1500 BST, the council said.

Council Leader Andrew Eade said: "This will be a great free event for all the family to enjoy.

"The march past by the Regiment with the Band and Bugles of the Rifles will be really spectacular and gives local people and visitors from all over the county and beyond the chance to come and pay tribute to their Regiment.

"The Rifles were created from the former Kings Shropshire Light Infantry in 2007 and there are many strong historic links to the Regiment connecting Shropshire people and families."
