‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Grosses Another $145 Million In Spectacular Second Weekend
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” grossed an estimated $145 million at the domestic box office for a stellar second weekend in theaters, after a record-breaking opening for the web-slinging superhero film.
The second weekend figure reported by Hollywood trade publications follows its record-breaking $360 million opening weekend.
The nine-figure gross makes it the third biggest second weekend in domestic box office history, coming in just behind “Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens” ($149.2 million in 2015) and “Avengers: Endgame” ($147.3 million in 2019), according to data from Box Office Mojo, and is only one of eight films to pull in over $100 million a second weekend in theaters.
The superhero blockbuster has now grossed over $655 million in North America, and over $1.67 billion worldwide.
Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” continued its own blockbuster run in theaters with another $31.5 million from North American theaters—officially propelling it over the $1 billion mark and turning it into the British filmmaker’s highest-grossing movie ever, surpassing 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises” total gross of $1.083 billion.
Whether “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hits $2 billion, a feat that only seven films in history have accomplished so far.
Outside the two blockbusters, the rest of the weekend was somewhat muted for films at the domestic box office. “One Night Only,” a new romantic comedy starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner, opened at 3,012 theaters and grossed an estimated $5.7 million. It’s a weak opening for a film with a reported $25 million budget, according to Variety. However, director Will Gluck’s previous rom-com “Anyone But You” had a similar opening—grossing only $6 million in 2023 before the Sydney Sweeney/Glen Powell flick became a surprise hit weeks later, ultimately grossing $88.3 million at the domestic box office and $220.3 million worldwide. Fourth place this weekend went to “Super Troopers 3,” grossing only $4 million for its own opening weekend. Fifth place went to “Toy Story 5,” holding on over its eighth weekend in theaters with $3.9 million, extending its own record-breaking run. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” surpassed “Toy Story 5” to become the year’s highest grossing film at American theaters last week.
