Guernsey States is set to debate a report into industrial action by airport firefighters.

The Tribunal of Inquiry report into what led to two days of strikes in May 2009 was made public in April, but could not be debated at the time.

The Policy Council, which presented it for debate, said it was in the public's interests for it to be debated.

The report contained a number of recommendations the council said should be adopted in the future.

The recommendations included evidence-based pay determination, the legal regulation of industrial action, more collaboration between States departments and committees and a centrally co-ordinated approach to regular risk assessments.

The Tribunal of Inquiry into the handling of the industrial action and pay negotiations ended up costing the island £170,000.

Guernsey Airport was closed for two days during the industrial action.
