Ronaldo draws record crowd
A WORLD record crowd packed Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium for the unveiling of winger Cristiano Ronaldo last night.

The Portugal star, who joined in an £80m deal from Manchester United earlier this month, was greeted by 80,000 fans – more than attended Diego Maradona’s arrival at Napoli.

Ronaldo said: “I have made my childhood dream a reality, which was nothing less than playing for Real Madrid.”

Man Utd in race for Obertan
BORDEAUX president Jean-Louis Triaud has revealed that winger Gabriel Obertan is on the verge of signing for Manchester United.

The French Under-21 international was loaned out to Ligue 1 side Lorient last season after failing to break into Laurent Blanc’s title-winning team.

But Triaud said: “Manchester United want to sign him and we would be delighted to see Gabriel playing for such a prestigious club. We will make the official announcement when the time is right.”

Zaki: Villa bid £11m for me
AMR ZAKI claims Aston Villa failed with an £11m bid to sign him in the January transfer window.

The Egypt international joined Wigan on a season-long loan from El Zamalek last summer and impressed in the first half of the season, only to tail off after Christmas. Zaki said the switch didn’t materialize as Wigan refused the compensation on offer but says he wants to play in the Premier League next year.
