T20 Blast leaders Hampshire hopeful over Hilton Cartwright injury

Hampshire captain James Vince says he is keeping his "fingers crossed" over an injury suffered by all-rounder Hilton Cartwright during his side's defeat at Kent in the T20 Blast on Sunday.

Australian Cartwright received treatment on his leg for several minutes after hitting a shot. He returned to his feet but failed to score another run before being dismissed for three.

"The fact he carried on batting and walking around is a good sign," Vince told BBC Radio Berkshire, adding that he expected Cartwright would have scans on the "damage".

"He's played a massive part for us in the competition so far, so fingers crossed he's able to get himself right for the back end of the competition."

Previously a white-ball player for Hampshire in 2025, Cartwright signed for this year's T20 Blast and is their fourth-highest scorer in the competition with 183 runs.

The 34-year-old, who represented Australia four times in 2017 across Tests and ODIs, also has a strike rate of 169.44 - the second-highest of any Hawks player.

Those figures have helped Hampshire lead the South Group, although their run of six successive T20 victories ended at Canterbury.

"We played a lot of decent cricket for large chunks of the game," said Vince, whose contribution of 84 runs on Sunday was his highest T20 score in almost a year and included 12 fours and two sixes.

"If we step back and look at our position with the last [four matches] of [the regular season] to come, we're obviously in a good position.

"It's a reminder that this game can go either way. The fact we'd won six in a row doesn't mean you're going to turn up and automatically win."
