A 17-year-old has been charged with causing death by careless driving over a crash in which a promising young athlete died.

Danny Evans, 18, from Connah's Quay, Flintshire, died when the car he was a passenger in overturned on the A548 at Sealand on February 15.

Mr Evans was pronounced dead at the scene and three others were taken to hospital with injuries.

The male driver was charged by North Wales Police on Monday.

A statement from North Wales Police said: "A 17-year-old man has today [Monday] been charged with causing death by careless driving following a collision on Sealand Road earlier this year.

"The single-vehicle collision happened on February 15, near Yew Tree Farm on the A548 in Sealand, Flintshire.

"18-year-old Daniel Thomas Evans, from the Connah's Quay area, was pronounced dead at the scene and three others were taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital."

The driver is due to appear at Mold Magistrates' Court on 15 June.

Mr Evans had represented Wales in the high jump and won a sports scholarship to Deeside College.

Just days later another man from Connah's Quay - Carl Sutton, 26 - died on the same stretch of road.

Mr Sutton, who worked for Vauxhall in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, died at the scene after his car hit a tree.
