The Backstreet Boys Are Back – On The Billboard Charts
The Backstreet Boys return to Billboard’s radio charts with “Bottle Up,” a new song from Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie. The track debuts at No. 19 on the Adult Contemporary chart and No. 40 on the Adult Pop Airplay list, giving the group its first new wins on those rankings since its 2022 holiday album A Very Backstreet Christmas produced multiple singles.
The Backstreet Boys are back – on the Billboard charts, that is. The Grammy-nominated boy band returns to multiple rankings in the United States this week with a new single titled "Bottle Up." The track does not front an upcoming full-length, or at least the superstars have not announced any intentions to record more right now. Instead, "Bottle Up" is featured on the soundtrack attached to the upcoming children's animated film Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie. While that project, which is set to arrive in theaters next month, is clearly aimed at very young audiences, "Bottle Up" launches on a pair of adult-leaning rankings, earning the Backstreet Boys its first new win in years.
"Bottle Up" performs best between the two tallies – both of which are built around which tracks rack up the largest number of plays at various pop radio formats in the United States – on the Adult Contemporary chart. On that roster, which features 30 spaces, the latest from the Backstreet Boys enters at No. 19.
The song settles into last place, No. 40, on the Adult Pop Airplay chart. The single only misses the Pop Airplay rundown, the most competitive of the three radio rosters published by Billboard that focus on pop music.
"Bottle Up" sits in the middle of the milestone 20 smashes the Backstreet Boys have sent to the Adult Contemporary chart in the more than quarter-century that the five singers have been placing tunes on the tally. The latest cut from the group is tied with "Christmas in New York," which topped out at No. 19 in early December 2022.
Over on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, "Bottle Up" doesn't perform nearly as well. The Paw Patrol single is now tied with "Drowning" as the only two compositions by the Backstreet Boys to peak in the lowest possible rung. Of course, "Bottle Up" is just getting started, and it could rise, perhaps dramatically, when Billboard refreshes its rankings shortly.
The last time the Backstreet Boys scored a new hit on either chart where "Bottle Up" debuts this frame was back in 2022. That fall, the five-piece dropped A Very Backstreet Christmas, and the holiday set produced multiple singles on the Adult Contemporary ranking. "Last Christmas" spent five weeks at No. 1, beginning on the roster dated December 3. The cover joined "I'll Never Break Your Heart" and "I Want It That Way," and gave the Backstreet Boys a new leader for the first time in more than two decades.
"Christmas in New York," which launched around the same time, stopped rising at No. 19, where "Bottle Up" begins this frame. "Christmas in New York" did not make it to the Adult Pop Airplay chart, but "Last Christmas" did. Unlike on the Adult Contemporary rundown, however, the Wham! rerecording didn't make a serious play for the summit. Instead, "Last Christmas" by the Backstreet Boys only ever stepped up to No. 38 – just a few rungs above where "Bottle Up" begins its run.
The Backstreet Boys claim the only debut on this week's Adult Contemporary chart. The group trails former One Direction singer Niall Horan on the Adult Pop Airplay tally, as the Irish singer-songwriter's "Tastes So Good" is new at No. 35.
