The Boys, Widow’s Bay Win Big: Critics Choice Super Awards Winners
The Critics Choice Association announced winners for its sixth annual Super Awards, honoring genre content often overlooked by mainstream shows. On the television side, "The Boys" and "Widow's Bay" each secured three wins. "The Boys" took Best Superhero Series (tie) and Antony Starr won Best Actor and Best Villain. "Widow's Bay" swept its horror categories, including Best Series, Actor (Matthew Rhys), and Actress (Kate O'Flynn). For film, "Superman", "Project Hail Mary", "Obsession", and "The Furious" each earned two awards. "Superman" won Best Superhero Movie and David Corenswet for actor. "Project Hail Mary" took Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movie and Ryan Gosling for actor. "Obsession" won Best Horror Movie and Inde Navarrette for actress. "The Furious" won Best Action Movie and Xie Miao for actor. Indy the dog also received a special award.
The Critics Choice Association revealed the winners of its sixth annual Critics Choice Super Awards today, with The Boys and Widow's Bay leading the television field with three wins each, and Superman, Project Hail Mary, Obsession, and The Furious each taking two prizes on the film side.
This is not to be confused with the flagship Critics Choice Awards 2026, which happened in January this year and covers the full breadth of film and television across all genres, the equivalent of a critics’ version of the Oscars and Emmys combined.
The Critics Choice Super Awards is a separate, spin-off ceremony created in 2020 specifically because the main Critics Choice Awards — like most prestige awards — historically underrepresents genre content. Its CEO Joey Berlin created it to recognize the "brilliance, creativity, and artistic excellence showcased in genres that, for far too long, have been overlooked by other award shows." It covers only superhero, science fiction and fantasy, horror, and action content, and winners are announced via press release rather than at a live televised ceremony.
The Boys picked up three trophies out of its five nominations in its final season, anchored by Best Superhero Series (tied with Spider-Noir). Antony Starr swept the individual acting categories, winning both Best Actor in a Superhero Series and Best Villain in a Series, a fitting send-off for a much-discussed role with not much precedent.
Widow's Bay, Apple TV+'s horror comedy, went three for three across its nominations: Best Horror Series, Best Actor in a Horror Series for Matthew Rhys, and Best Actress in a Horror Series for Kate O'Flynn. The Apple TV+ series has been one of the platform's most Emmy-nominated shows this year, and the Super Awards sweep adds further critical momentum.
Superman took Best Superhero Movie and Best Actor in a Superhero Movie for David Corenswet, while Milly Alcock won Best Actress in a Superhero Movie for Supergirl. Project Hail Mary won Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Movie alongside Best Actor in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Movie for Ryan Gosling.
Obsession claimed Best Horror Movie and Best Actress in a Horror Movie for Inde Navarrette, who has sparked awards buzz ever since the record-breaking film first swept the box office. The Furious won Best Action Movie, with Xie Miao taking Best Actor in an Action Movie.
The one non-human winner of the night: Indy, a Duck Tolling Retriever who stars in IFC's horror film Good Boy, took home Best Good Boy in a Horror Movie.
