the first subscription concert it gave following its two-month-long strike, the Philadelphia Orchestra performs Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 in E- flat, the "Eroica" Symphony. Christoph Eschenbach conducts the performance, recorded on November 22nd at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. (George Blood Recordings) 57:30 ******************************************************************************* **IMPORTANT NOTE** AS INDICATED ABOVE, WE ARE DROPPING THE NEWS CUTAWAY IN HOUR 2 OF THIS PROGRAM. THE PERFORMANCE OF BEETHOVEN'S "EROICA" SYMPHONY IS 55 MINUTES LONG, TOO LONG TO FIT IN THE NORMAL PT FORMAT. WE ARE ABLE TO BROADCAST THE COMPLETE SYMPHONY ONLY IF WE BEGIN THE MUSIC NO LATER THAN 3:00 INTO THE HOUR, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TIME NORMALLY SCHEDULED FOR THE CUTAWAY. WE HAVE CONSULTED A FEW STATIONS ON THIS APPROACH, AND EVERYONE HAS GONE ALONG WITH THE IDEA, RECOGNIZING THE UNUSUAL OPPORTUNITY WE HAVE. STATIONS THAT DON'T NORMALLY COVER THE HOUR 2 CUTAWAY WITH OTHER PROGRAMMING WILL NOT BE AFFECTED BY THE CHANGE. STATIONS THAT TYPICALLY INSERT NEWSCASTS OR OTHER MATERIAL BETWEEN 1:00 AND 6:00 PAST THE HOUR WILL NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEIR BOARD OPERATORS DO NOT SWITCH AWAY FROM PERFORMANCE TODAY AT THAT TIME DURING HOUR 2 OF THIS PROGRAM. ******************************************************************************* **SEGMENT D BEGINS AT 58:30**
