The inaugural South Pacific Games set to begin - ABC International Development

The South Pacific Games was initiated by the South Pacific Commission to promote and develop sport in the region. More than 600 athletes competed from 13 nations in the very first South Pacific games, held in Fiji in 1963.

Weekend Magazine filmed around Suva in the lead-up to the games as athletes arrived and settled into the Games village, based at Nasimu Teachers Training College. There were still some last minute alterations being made to venues as training began and the Samoan soccer team found themselves in a sticky situation.
