The Strokes' UK comeback attracts all-star guestlist
Coldplay's Chris Martin and Libertine Carl Barat were among a small crowd watching The Strokes first UK gig in four years on Wednesday.
The New York band performed under the pseudonym Venison for the show at the 450-capacity venue Dingwalls in London.
Tickets changed hands for more than ten times the £10 face value, after the originals sold out within minutes.
The show was a warm-up for festival slots at the Isle of Wight and Rockness this weekend.
Caroline, a 19-year-old art student originally from the US, said she paid £100 for her ticket.
"I would have paid a lot more for it. I've been listening to the Strokes since their first album and I've never had the opportunity to see them live."
James, an unemployed 19-year-old from London, sold a spare pair of tickets for £200 online.
"I go to a lot of gigs, I don't like ticket touting, but it was an opportunity I couldn't let go.
"I feel bad for doing it but I'm not going to say no to a hundred quid," he told BBC 6 Music.
Despite reports that The Strokes' long-awaited fourth album has been completed, the band stuck to tried and tested tracks in their 70-minute, 18-song set.
They opened with New York City Cops, from their acclaimed debut album Is This It, before rattling through the likes of The Modern Age, Hard To Explain, Someday and Heart In A Cage.
A crowd of ticketless fans remained outside the venue until the end of the gig, with the sound from the stage clearly audible throughout.
The Strokes perform at the Isle of Wight festival on 12 June and at Rockness festival in Dores, Scotland a day later.
