Three teenage girls were rescued by hovercraft after becoming cut off by the tide in Morecambe Bay.

The girls were walking along Silverdale Sands when they became trapped at 2225 BST on Sunday.

One of the girls phoned Lancashire police, which deployed their helicopter, and a spotlight was used to pinpoint their location.

They were picked up by the Morecambe RNLI hovercraft and taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

One of the girls had a minor ankle injury the second suffered mild hypothermia and the third was unharmed.
