Two men and a woman have appeared in court charged with the murder of a mother-of-four in South Lanarkshire at the weekend.

Gail Russell, 26, suffered fatal injuries in a disturbance in Small Crescent, Blantyre, on Saturday.

Charlene Wilson, 24, Thomas Gibson, 29 and 22-year-old Aaron Black appeared on petition at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

They made no plea or declaration and were remanded in custody pending further examination.

Ms Russell was taken to Hairmyres Hospital following the incident but later died.

She had four young children and had only moved to the street in Blantyre a few months earlier.

She had been staying in a house used to shelter homeless people.

Police said the local community had been left "genuinely shocked and outraged" by her death.
