Tribute to Basingstoke ambulance crash rider

The family of a motorcyclist who died in a collision with an ambulance on a 999 call said he was a "dedicated father".

The crash happened on the A303 slipway to the A3093 in Andover on Tuesday. The ambulance crew were not injured.

Kenneth Mellor, 52, of Pendennis Close, Basingstoke, died after his bike crossed the central reservation and collided with the ambulance.

His family said he will be remembered for his generosity of spirit.

They said Mr Mellor, who was known as Tony, was brought up in Halifax before settling in Hampshire.

His career in telecommunications, computer engineering and project management took him to live in Germany for several years before he returned to the UK.

His family added: "Tony was a dedicated father to his son Mark.

"[They] spent many a happy weekend camping in the woods, teaching Mark about conservation and wildlife, building campfires and cooking in the open-air.

"They also shared a love of motorbikes spending happy summer evenings riding in the Hampshire countryside, stopping for refreshment and returning home to reflect upon the journey.

"[Tony] will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, charitable nature and above all the love and commitment he showed to his son Mark."

A section of the A3093 was closed for four hours to allow officers to conduct a full investigation.
