Tributes have been paid to a "fun-loving" grandfather-of-two who died in a road traffic collision last Sunday.

Gwyn Rees, 49, of Gilfach Goch, Rhondda Cynon Taf, was killed when his van left the A4073 in Tonyrefail at 1245 BST.

Mr Rees, known to friends as "Bimbo", loved life, "had his own little cheeky character and made everybody smile and laugh," said his family.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which happened at the the Mountain View Estate roundabout.

Afterwards one lane of the carriageway was closed for approximately two hours.

Mr Rees, who was driving a white Ford Connect panel van, was taken to Royal Glamorgan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His family, who are being supported by a South Wales Police Family Liaison Officer, paid tribute to him in a statement.

"When he was around, everybody would know," they said.

"He lived his life to the maximum and if there was a party, he'd be there. Where there was a joke to be cracked he would have cracked it."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit on 02920 571 600 or 101.
