President Donald Trump said Monday that Walmart will lower prices on several products, including beef, casting the move as part of his administration’s push to reduce grocery prices in celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday.

Trump said in a Truth Social post that Walmart would drop the price of a pound of ground beef by almost 15%, “among many other products,” at his administration’s request. He praised the retailer as a “truly patriotic Company” and urged other retailers to follow.

“I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday,” Trump wrote. “Walmart will, in particular, be dropping the price for a pound of ground beef by almost 15%, among many other products. This is a huge deal for the many millions of Americans who, smartly, shop at Walmart, which is a truly patriotic Company who loves the U.S.A.”

The Washington Examiner reached out to Walmart for comment.

The announcement comes as the White House continues to push affordability policy, particularly Trump’s efforts to lower grocery prices, which were a central issue in the 2024 election and have remained politically potent.

Trump also claimed success for lowering prices on other fronts, particularly those that have become important issues for voters in the 2026 midterm elections.

“Just as I promised, Oil Prices are plummeting FAST, and Gas Prices at the pump are dropping too, just like egg and Prescription Drug prices which I am bringing down by historic levels,” Trump said. “Walmart is stepping up in a big and bold way, and other Retailers should follow the lead of these absolute Patriots.”

The president’s announcement follows a Department of Justice settlement with three major egg producers accused of helping inflate prices.

Cal-Maine Foods, Hickman’s Egg Ranch, and Versova Holdings agreed to pay $3.3 million and donate 53 million eggs to resolve federal and state allegations that they coordinated bids to manipulate a benchmark used to price billions of eggs. The companies did not admit wrongdoing, and the settlement still needs court approval.

The DOJ and 17 states alleged the companies coordinated between June 2022 and March 2025 to “artificially” inflate daily egg price quotations, which officials said led to higher consumer prices. Egg prices reached a record average of about $6.23 per dozen in March 2025 during a bird flu outbreak that reduced supply.
