Police said a family were at home in Swindon on Sunday when they heard a knock and the fire alarm activated.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said firefighters had extinguished the blaze and nobody was injured.

He said initial inquiries indicated that the probable cause was burning paper or something similar causing a heavy lace curtain to ignite.

It happened at about 1820 BST on Kirkstall Close in the Toothill area of the town. The force is appealing for witnesses.
