Poor Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall). Coronation Street’s not to be kind recently. The last thing he needs his his world turned upside down… which is exactly what his daughters are about to.

The tragic hit-and-run caused by Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard)left Weatherfield’s most loveable mechanic with life-changing injuries and confined to a wheelchair.

Recovery was a long and painful process, straining his marriage to  Fiz (Jennie McAlpine). However, with her support as well as the help of their daughters Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby Dobbs (Billie Naylor) and his formidable mother Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), Tyrone started to turn a corner.

Unfortunately, Tyrone had another problem on the horizon – being implicated in Theo Silverton’s murder.

On the night the vile abuser was slain on the Cobbles, Tyrone happened to be in the garage when  Kevin Webster’s (Michael Le Vell) car was being sabotaged by Carl. In an extremely dark twist of karma, Ty accidentally caused the jack to come loose, sending the car crashing down on the man responsible for his hit and run.

But this incident was unlucky for someone else other than Carl.

Right after he was done flattening the Worst Webster, Tyrone happened to see Theo alive and well on the night he died after he’d already fled the flat. Which spelled bad news for Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby). Because even though Ty was the one person who could corroborate her story to the police and rule her out as a murder suspect, he stayed quiet for fear of implicating himself.

But after Summer hospitalised herself when she couldn’t stand the thought of going to jail, Tyrone’s conscience got the best of him and he finally confessed.

Just as that drama is over and done with, now Tyrone faces another jaw-dropping twist thanks to his two girls – and it’s about his dad.

Bear in mind, it’s only been a year since Ty met his mother Cassie for the first time, and that took some getting used to. Weathefield’s friendliest grease-monkey was abandoned at a police station by Cassie and raised by his adoptive parents, Jackie and Darren Dobbs. The former drug addict struggled to get clean and step up to be the mum her lad always needed. Now she’s an essential part of Tyrone’s life, running the switchboard at Street Cars and even dating Rovers’ Return legend Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).

However, we’ve heard precious little about the identity of Tyrone’s father… until now.

Now it seems the Dobbs/Plummer grand family reunion will soon be exploding onto our screens, as upcoming scenes of Coronation Street see Hope and Ruby drop a huge bombshell on Tyrone regarding his absent dad…

When Hope and Ruby let themselves in, it’s clear they were expecting the house to be empty and Fiz senses they’re up to something. Cassie clocks the girls engrossed in an email on Hope’s phone but when she tries to quiz them, they refuse to be drawn, and explain that it’s a surprise for Tyrone.

Meanwhile Hope and Ruby reveal they have a surprise for Tyrone, they sent off a sample of his DNA and… and they’ve found his dad. How will Tyrone react to coming face to face with his old man?

Earlier this year, Coronation Street teased the arrival of Tyrone’s long lost father Ross, played by veteran EastEnders and The Bill actor Ian Burfield, whose debut on the Cobbles just so happens to coincide with Cassie Plummer’s exit.

Coronation Street boss  Kate Brooks teased the arrival of Daddy Plummer.

‘He comes into the world of Fiz and Tyrone. Tyrone’s in the mindset of ‘I’m in my 20s, I’ve survived this long without a dad. The dad is very keen to connect with Tyrone. It’s not long before the dad makes eyes at one of the residents, and maybe a bit of a relationship starts there. It’s very domesticated. It really shines a spotlight on Fiz and Tyrone as a couple and that dynamic as a family.’

‘Cassie is, needless to say, not happy that this guy has turned back up’.
