A bakery says it is to create up to 25 new jobs after signing a deal with supermarket giant Tesco to supply cone-shaped cakes.

The cakes baked at Berwyn Bakery, Bala, Gwynedd, one of the largest employers in the area, will be on the shelves by August.

The bakery was established in 1898 and already employs more than 100 people.

Schoolchildren at nearby Ysgol O M Edwards helped to choose the final flavour for the new cake.

Llewelyn Williams, the Berwyn Bakery managing director and partner, said the new "substantial" contract would allow the firm to increase the workforce.

"This is great news for us and the local community, at a time when everybody know trading conditions have been difficult for so many people," he said.

"This helps us, it helps the local community and it's a way of engaging local children, and we're extremely proud to be involved."
