It goes without saying that the make-up industry is a competitive one, with hundreds of new products launching monthly and each one promising to be better than the last. In short: it takes a lot to stand-out, and a lot more to impress the editors and insiders.
Victoria Beckham's beauty line has managed to do so with aplomb, delivering elevated essentials that are easy-to-use, with refined pigments and colours to suit all complexions. It's one major bestseller? The Foundation Drops.
Since launching last summer, the formula has proven to be a hit. Developed with skincare experts Augustinus Bader, the Foundation Drops features Bader's patented TFC8 complex which is a blend of peptides, lipids and vitamins; everything your skin needs to stay hydrated, plump, and healthy, all while promoting cell repair. The texture is cosmetically elegant, too. It's a silky, fluid cream that's neither too runny nor too rich to apply, blends out seamlessly even with fingertips and wears comfortably all day. It's also easy to tailor the coverage you need, whether that's a veil of colour to even out discolouration and redness or dialled up for a more polished finish.
At £104, this is certainly an investment. But it's one that fans of the brand are clearly ready to make, as it continuously sold out and had a whopping 20,000 people waitlist. It is now back in stock - but should you take the plunge?
As a beauty editor who's tried hundreds of foundations in her time, my verdict is yes - if you're looking to spend on a foundation. There are plenty of reliable, excellent formulas out there for a fraction of the price, but Beckham's formula is seriously impressive.
I was sceptical at first, but it made such a difference to my make-up, I found myself reaching for it for every event (from nights out to work events and on-camera wear) and almost every day. The versatile formula means I can wear it on holiday and in the office as just a tint, too, which meant the cost-per-wear was well worth it.
Plus, it made my combination/oily skin which has constellation of spots, scarring and redness, look really fresh, naturally radiant, and it doesn't go cakey or feel heavy. While I never rely on make-up for skincare benefits, I do think this formula kept my redness at bay and did not irritate my acne-prone skin. There are 19 flexible, well-balanced shades available.
In short, if you're looking for a hero foundation that does it all and does it beautifully, make sure to shop it while it's available. Race you to the check out.
