The 2026 score is 2.2 percentage points below the 84.6 per cent Voigt received when he first took the post four years ago, according to Handelsblatt.

Voigt has been under political pressure since the revocation of his doctorate, Handelsblatt noted, making the congress ballot a test of whether the party still stands behind him.

The AfD has scheduled a no-confidence vote in the Thuringian state parliament for Friday, its second such move this year, Handelsblatt reported.
