Woman dragged by car in designer handbag snatch

A woman has been dragged by a car after a passenger grabbed her designer handbag before the driver sped off along an Edinburgh street.

The 22-year-old, from Sheffield, was in St Mary's Street near the Travelodge at 0950 BST on Tuesday.

She was called over to a car that was parked on the east side of the street, which had three men inside.

One of the men, who was sitting in the back, grabbed her Louis Vuitton handbag and the car was driven away at speed.

The woman kept hold of her bag, causing her to be dragged a short distance before the man let go of her bag.

She was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after receiving minor injuries.

The man who grabbed her bag was white, aged 25 to 35, with short, dark hair. He had facial hair, possibly a moustache or beard.

There is no description available of the other two men.

The vehicle was a dark-coloured five-door hatchback, which was last seen being driven west on the Royal Mile towards the junction with South Bridge.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "Thankfully the culprits were unsuccessful in their attempt to rob the victim, however she did receive minor injuries that required hospital treatment, and we are keen for any information that can help us identify those responsible.

"Anyone who was in the area of St Mary's Street and the Royal Mile around the time of the incident, who has any information that can help our inquiries, should contact us immediately.
