BHOPAL: A 55-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by a group of women in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district, with a video of the assault surfacing on Monday that purportedly shows the attackers pausing to drink water before repeatedly resuming the assault as the victim lay helpless on the ground.Harkunwar Prajapati, died during treatment after the attack in Silver City Kumhar Toli under the Nowgong police station limits on July 11.The viral video purportedly shows several women repeatedly striking her with sticks.

At one point, some of the assailants are seen drinking water before returning to continue the assault.According to her family, Harkunwar had stepped outside her house to drain rainwater that had accumulated after heavy rainfall when members of a rival family, allegedly armed with sticks, attacked her over an old enmity.Her son, Rajendra Prajapati, alleged that Badri Prajapati, Sonu, Sachin, Komal Prajapati, Roshni, Vimla, Kallu and Rohani, along with others, surrounded his mother and beat her mercilessly.

He also alleged that a Dial-112 police team was present at the spot but did not intervene to stop the assault.The family claimed the dispute stemmed from an alleged love affair after Harkunwar's younger son, Pawan Prajapati, and a girl from the accused family eloped on April 25.Rajendra further alleged that instead of ensuring advanced medical treatment, police took his critically injured mother to the police station to complete complaint formalities, where she remained for nearly an hour before being referred to the district hospital.

She was later declared dead.Chhatarpur superintendent of police Rajat Saklecha said four accused have been arrested in connection with the murder. He said police are examining the viral video as well as the allegations regarding the conduct of police personnel during the incident.
