Women are poorly represented in Papua New Guinea Parliament - ABC International Development

While women make up 50% of the population in both Papua New Guinea (PNG) and the Solomon Islands, women's representation in PNG parliament is only 0.9%. And that figure is attributed to one female MP, Dame Carol Kidu. Dame Kidu, PNG’s Minister for Social Development, makes the point that if women campaign only about women's issues, then they may not be campaigning effectively, since evidence has shown that women who are standing for election cannot rely on 'the women's vote'.
