One person has been killed and more injured after a shooting at a fanzone in San Jose, California. Officers are investigating a shooting in the area of N. Market St and W. Santa Clara St. Another victim has been taken to hospital in life-threatening conditions, San Jose Police said. The incident is being treated as "homicide," police added.

A full statement from the force read: "Units are currently investigating a shooting in the area of N Market St and W Santa Clara St. One victim was pronounced deceased on scene. The second victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. This incident is being investigated as a homicide. Several surrounding streets are closed in the area. Please avoid the area and use alternate routes."

The shooting took place at San Pedro Square, one of several sites in the San Francisco Bay Area where crowds have been gathering to watch World Cup matches on big screens. There is a heavy police presence in the area and several road closures are in place.
