WWE SummerSlam 2026 Results Night 2 Returns, Swerves And Highlights
WWE SummerSlam 2026 Night 2, held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, featured a major return and several title changes. Kevin Owens made a triumphant comeback after a 17-month neck injury, winning a fatal four-way to secure an Undisputed WWE Championship shot against CM Punk. Three championships changed hands: Chad Gable captured the Intercontinental title from Penta in his hometown, Baron Corbin defeated Trick Williams for the United States Championship, and Chelsea Green became the Interim WWE Women's Champion in a ladder match. The main event saw Roman Reigns retain the World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins in a lengthy, clean encounter, cementing his era of dominance. Despite some criticized bouts, the night largely delivered on fan expectations with logical booking.
The second night of WWE SummerSlam 2026 had a major return, plenty of highlights, but no real swerves — unless you consider logical, fan-fueled booking an unexpected event. It was an event that closed a ton of chapters, but what’s next?
Here's my breakdown of Night 2 of SummerSlam. Let's talk wrestling.
I figured the Finn Balor vs. Sami Zayn match had a chance to steal the show on Sunday, but I didn't know it would happen the way it did. The newly reinstated Nick Aldis added not one, but two new participants to the match making it a fatal four way. Aldis added Gunther first and then they blew off the stadium by announcing Kevin Owens in his return to WWE. Yeah, that was special.
Owens had been off television for roughly 17 months with a neck injury, and the finish came on a stunner to Zayn. It sets up a challenge to CM Punk, who retained the Undisputed WWE Championship over Cody Rhodes on Saturday.
The match was meh, but Baron Corbin dethroned Trick Williams to become the first new champion crowned at SummerSlam.
I hope WWE splits Trick from Lil Yachty. They seemingly wanted Yachty to be Trick's Prince NaNa, but he wasn't even his Lio Rush to Bobby Lashley. With all due respect to what Yachty has accomplished in entertainment, he's never found his stride in this role. Trick will do fine without him.
Saturday produced zero title changes across six matches, so Corbin's win was the first belt to move all weekend.
Chelsea Green delighted the fans in Minnesota by winning the ladder match to become the WWE interim champion. It wasn't a great match by ladder match standards, but the right person won — all things considered.
The stipulation itself was new ground. With Rhea Ripley sidelined by injury, this was the first time WWE has crowned an interim champion on the main roster, and Green climbed over Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend to get there.
Danhausen won, but the Human Monies on a Pole was terrible. WWE has to carefully book Danhausen and this was an example of pushing the same schtick too long. The little people came out and worked well, but how was this any different from his previous appearances? Not very much at all.
The interference did most of the work. JD McDonagh got involved on Dominik Mysterio’s behalf and the Minihausens removed him, with a returning Toritohausen taking out Mysterio on a hurricanrana and then a tope suicida to the floor.
We knew Gable was going over, but having Penta tap was an interesting finish. The right man won, but the match didn't have some of the pizazz I expected. Still great to see Gable get singles gold.
Gable countered a Destroyer into the ankle lock for the submission, in his hometown, with his family in the ring afterward. Penta fastened the belt around his waist himself before the crowd started a "you deserve it" chant.
The main event was insane. It was long, but not redundant. Reigns won an instant classic and it was the right ending. It settled who was No. 1 of the era, and it happened exactly as it should have. No outside interference. It was an absolute nod to who Roman has been for the past seven years.
The finish ran past 40 minutes. WWE booked one referee bump and had Rollins reach for a chair before Reigns cut him off, then let it end clean. Both men sat in opposite corners afterward before Reigns walked to the center and offered a fist, and Rollins met it.
I loved this match — everything about it. Reigns deserves to stand alone and now he can likely head into a feud with Oba Femi before the Ruler truly takes the torch.
