NEW DELHI: The report of an inquiry committee, which probed into the allegations of financial irregularities against Allahabad HC Judge Yashwant Varma, will be tabled in Lok Sabha Wednesday.Lok Sabha’s list of business said its secretary general Utpal Singh will table two volumes of the report of the committee, which was constituted under Judges (Inquiry) Act, along with oral and documentary evidence recorded during course of probe.Large amount of unaccounted partially-burnt cash was discovered from the outhouse of Varma’s residence during a fire incident in March 2025, sparking public outrage over what was seen by many as an instance of judicial corruption even though he feigned ignorance about the source of money and rejected allegations of financial impropriety. After an in-house probe ordered by then CJI indicted him, LS Speaker constituted a panel headed by SC judge Aravind Kumar, under the Act after accepting a motion supported by members from different parties across the political divide.Justice Varma, however, resigned during the inquiry, and it remains unclear if Parliament will now move ahead by acting on the committee’s findings as some experts have argued that the Judges (Inquiry) Act can be invoked only against a serving judge.
